Earlier today, members of the All‑Party Parliamentary Group on AMR — including Sir Jeremy Hunt MP, Dr Beccy Cooper MP, Dr Danny Chambers MP and Lord Ara Darzi (pictured alongside BSAC President, Professor Andrew Seaton) — met with Rt Hon Pat McFadden MP, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, for a productive discussion on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
They urged the government to recognise AMR as an immediate and systemic national security threat, align it with current priorities, support investment in scalable diagnostics and surveillance, and explore ways to reassert UK leadership, particularly in light of the recent announcement of the closure of the Fleming Fund.
The APPG will be following up by submitting a written proposal to the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, setting out how the UK can maintain global leadership on AMR.
The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy serves as the Secretariat to the APPG. Contact Rhian Foley, Public Affairs Lead, for enquiries.
