Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is not a distant threat—it is already eroding the foundations of modern medicine. Without effective antibiotics, routine procedures like cancer treatments, c-sections, and surgeries become high-risk. AMR causes 35,000 deaths annually in the UK and over 5 million globally. With the Fleming Fund concluding and ODA budgets tightening, UK leadership is at a crossroads.
This meeting will explore how we sustain AMR impact through smarter investment, workforce development, and global collaboration. It offers parliamentarians a chance to shape the UK’s strategic direction and ensure AMR remains a visible, well-supported priority. We’ll hear from:
The National Risk Register now estimates a 25% chance of a pandemic within five years. AMR does not respect borders. If we act now—by investing in infection care, antibiotic access, and workforce development—we can be better prepared. But that window is closing.
