Reducing NHS Infection Burden by Optimising Diagnostic Use

To mark World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is joining forces with BSAC—the largest professional body of clinicians working on AMR, and AMR UK—the UK’s only Patient Organisation for AMR, to host a drop-in event for MPs and Peers. The event will bring together clinicians, patient advocates, and diagnostic innovators, and will focus on why the UK must improve its approach to infection testing.

Event: Reducing NHS Infection Burden by Optimising Diagnostic Use
Date: Tuesday 18th November
Time: 14:15–16:00 (drop-in)
Location: Room R, Portcullis House

Urinary tract infections drive over 10 million GP appointments annually and are a leading cause of sepsis—yet infection diagnostics remain poorly used and undervalued across the NHS. Smarter use of diagnostics could be transformational: improving patient outcomes, supporting clinical decision-making, and reducing pressure on overstretched services.

What to expect:

  • Quick, informal conversations with clinicians, patient advocates, and diagnostic innovators
  • Photo opportunity with template press release and suggested social media post
  • A short quiz to challenge assumptions and spark discussion
  • Live demonstration of new UTI testing technology

Whether you have 5 minutes or 30, we’d be delighted if you join us.
